Day 18 I must go down to the sea again...

Since tomorrow is a clean up, pack up, leave a thank you kind of day before heading for home, our last full day had to be spent at the seaside. I love the sea and it offers a peace and calm to my soul like no other place. Back at the start of our stay here in Dublin we were introduced to the DART (Dublin Area Rapid Transit) train system. We had only traveled part of the 27km rail line, but we enjoyed that, and the rest looked very promising.

We walked down to the Bookerstown Station and decided on heading north first to the little coastal town of Howth. Howth is a fishing port and a seaside destination for Dubliners and tourists alike. It is a pretty and busy little town. Every second building is a seafood restaurant. The town has all the requisite attractions, like castle, castle ruins, pubs, music along the street ... but Howth also had harbour seals, happy to pose!

Not platform 9 3/4, but wondering about these fraction signs all along the line.
Made a new friend!

Pretty harbour
Fiddler's Green
Typical Irish beauty

Pleasure boats as well as working vessels
Castle ruins
Cool roadside carvings
Beautiful beach for a walk
Alive, alive oh!

Birds pose for you around here!

After exploring, we were back on the train and heading south, back into County Wicklow, for a visit to Greystones. I love trains but Irish trains are a special treat. Chatting with friendly people, and enjoying the musical Irish lilt is a great way to pass the time! As we traveled along on the south side of Dublin toward Greystones I noticed that the seals we not just in Howth, they were all along the shore! Very cool!

Greystones was another little treat. A stop at The Happy Pear for airport snacks was part of our plan. We learned about The Happy Pear from Somebody Feed Phil! The shop is a health food shop/cafe run by very energetic and positive twin brothers. It was a neat little shop and we figured healthy airport snacks were a good thing, so it was a worthwhile stop!

A walk through town and another happy walk on another beach. We spent two hours on a train today and still managed to walk almost 11km! Ireland is clearly good for our health!
